- Check all of your equipment before going out – Realizing you forgot your shutter release cable ruin an entire photo shoot
- Be sure your batteries are fully charged – Long exposures waste batteries quick
- Ensure that the photo is properly focused by previewing before moving on
- Use a smaller aperture to ensure the entire scene is in focus
- Be cautious of raising your ISO levels, as this can increase noise substantially
- Be sure your tripod is sturdy, cheap tripod can shake from wind
- Take your time and be sure to get good coverage – Often because of long exposures at night, photographers don’t take as many photos as they usually would
